"The Banking Union annual report highlights how it has been a great achievement encouraging future representation in the Banking Union of national competent authorities and non-participating Member States. The ECR’s amendments, which acted as a counter-weight to these views, were rejected.
In addition, this report does not contain an explicit reference stating that the interests of non-Banking Union participants should be respected in light of the European Deposit Insurance Scheme. Furthermore the Single Supervisory Mechanism should not drive the legislative framework for non-participants of the Banking Union. Regarding the ‘too big to fail’ issue, since the UK has adopted its own legislation in this area, a swift agreement at EU level in this field would not be welcomed if it were to undermine the UK’s own regime. As a result, I voted against this report."@en1
