"The situation of human rights in the state of Eritrea has been deteriorating for a long time: civilians are regularly and arbitrarily detained or arrest for a number of unjustifiable reasons. Criticism of the government or, in anyway undermining the state by engaging in subversive journalism or practicing an unsanctioned religion is punishable in this country. I supported this resolution because it will not only highlight and call for improvements to the inexcusable human rights situation in Eritrea, but it will also consider how aid and resources from the EU can be best focused to address the situation in order to encourage change."@en1
