"I voted against this report. The UK is leading the world in capturing the possibilities of big data and the benefits it could bring to businesses in every sector. It is the new kid on the block and has the potential to change how data is collected and analysed for the considerable future. However, with it come dangers, more and more personal data is being collected on each of us and already allows targeted advertising. It is important to have regulations in place that lay out what data can be collected and how to ensure the public know that their data is being collected and how that data can then be used. The UK already has a framework in place for the security, control, ownership, the portability and reusability of this intellectual capital. I do not support this report as I do not believe that it is in the best interests of the UK for the EU to be deciding how UK businesses are allowed to use this resource. We should not allow the EU to be a barrier to innovation or the revolution of technology that will only benefit the UK economy."@en1
