"I voted against this resolution as it was unbalanced, with a strong focus on public—private enterprise, and not enough emphasis was placed on data protection or privacy protection. The fact that the resolution is 9 pages long with 45 paragraphs and has only 5 fleeting references to data protection means that it is completely big—business oriented. The few references to data protection in the resolution are taken completely from the point of view of businesses rather than the point of view of the user or consumer, saying that data protection is in the interest of big data companies as creating trust can foster growth. The report talks about having default privacy models built in to operating systems for the benefit of fast development of companies rather than for users. The report also assures businesses that data protection and opportunities for the integrated use of data ‘are not mutually exclusive’. This clearly is not written in favour of users. It was for these reasons that I voted against this resolution."@en1
