"Madam President, much of the parliamentary discussion and indeed contact from the public has been around antimicrobial resistance. Of course this is important and I completely endorse the approach taken by the rapporteur in terms of the restriction on prophylactic use, but there are other things in this report and I particularly wanted to say thank you to the rapporteur and the team of shadows for listening to calls from the UK where we are asking to continue our long-established and very well—thought—of practice of using specially qualified persons.
I welcome this flexibility and the recognition that one-size-fits-all does not always work, especially given the background of the referendum debate in the UK – it gives me something very positive to say.
Can I just end my time by urging colleagues not to vote for the retabled GM banning amendment. This would take 19 well used veterinary products off the market. It is a dangerous precedent. We should make a very clear distinction between GM crops and GM science for medicine."@en1
