"I would like to thank my Labour colleague for his work on this report, and reiterate my own position: Very often, our colleagues on the right use ‘better-law making’ or ‘better regulation’ as coded jargon for deregulation, liberalisation, austerity, and the scrapping of important social policies.
Socialists and Democrats, and all those who want to see a more social and more equal Europe will never let such a misuse of language stand. Better law-making and better regulation must include a social perspective: how to create a society where social inclusion is advanced, equality is promoted, and fundamental rights are upheld. Often, the absence of laws and legislative initiatives only serve to perpetuate ongoing exclusion or stalemate.
We must use the opportunity of fresh commitment to better law-making to move towards a strong social Europe."@en1
