"I voted in favour of the report which is part of a package of proposals to further strengthen procedural rights for citizens in criminal proceedings, which includes one on safeguards for children, and another on legal aid. Labour MEPs support the idea of establishing minimum standards across the EU in areas as fundamental as procedural safeguards for children. Along with Ireland and Denmark, the UK will not opt into this directive so there is no conflict between national constitutional rules and secondary EU law."@en1
