"I voted in favour of this package of proposals by the Commission because I believe it is key that we adopt minimum standards throughout the EU to better protect the rights of suspects or those accused in criminal proceedings who are children. Ensuring that these children are treated with respect, dignity and professionalism is not only a moral duty, it is also vital to facilitating reintegration of these minors in society and giving them a fair shot at a second chance. Given the UK will not opt in to this directive, there is no conflict between national constitutional rules and secondary EU law."@en1
