"Madam President, I urge the Commissioner to look out for two upcoming reports that will come to the floor of this House which are both very relevant: meeting anti-poverty targets in the light of household costs, for which I co-authored an opinion, and poverty from a woman’s perspective. We need strong impetus to meet these anti-poverty targets and that includes having serious social focus for the European Semester with a strong gender perspective, and I say this on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Women are disproportionately at risk of poverty and social exclusion and when we tackle the poverty that vulnerable women experience we lift up the rest with them.
The European Union has the potential to build a socially just and truly equal Europe, but we need to tackle gender inequalities if we are to make that vision a reality."@en1
