"Mr President, my thanks to the Commissioner for the presentation. I think we all understand the need to ensure that workers are well protected wherever they are from and wherever they are working and that they are not exploited and that their companies operate within the law. We want to ensure that posting is not used as a mechanism to deliberately exert downward pressure on wages and standards. We are aware that there is concern around posted workers in a number of areas and sectors and we recognise that the implementation directive has yet to be transposed in all Member States and many of us have a concern that a lot of Member States do not actually have adequate resources in terms of labour inspection for that to be fully effective. So we were asked to look at whether the proposals answer the concerns. I think some of us have yet to be convinced. I think we want to know whether we can have more than the limited nature of collective agreements that are, I admit, contained here – they are in line with the ECJ, but could we go further? Should we not be looking at including sectoral and company agreements, and if they are not in here, why not? In terms of remuneration packages it appears better than simply covering pay, especially when we see so many states with minimum wages rather than living wages, but while equal pay in the same place sounds like a good idea I think for some people we ought to consider that a drop in pay may not be so attractive for all workers. I think we need to look at this in the full range to make sure that we are really addressing the concerns we have."@en1
