"Madam President, the fight against fraud has been a top priority for the EU for all the time I have been here, and before. What I welcome about this report is that it outlines the challenges in how we protect the EU’s financial interests, but by fighting fraud we can also retain the confidence of our citizens.
This report highlights that there are some areas where a number of Member States have to do more – including my own, the United Kingdom. I think that it is important to recognise that a vast number of cases of fraud that the EU has to address are in fact in Member States. The Commission’s commitment in this report to publishing a regular EU anti—corruption report is welcome, as are the calls to harmonise the methodology behind the calculation of error rates at both EU and Member State levels. However, a meaningful fight against fraud means that there must be legislation regarding the minimum level of protection for whistle—blowers."@en1
