"I voted in favour of this legislative report. The current schemes benefit nearly 30 million children per year across the EU, and their funding has been increased to EUR 150 million a year (2014-2020). In 2012-13, the UK received GBP 3.3 million worth of EU aid for the milk scheme, supplemented by GBP 0.9 million of national subsidy. Such a breakdown of funding illustrates a significant overall benefit of the scheme for the UK taxpayer. UK dairy farmers enjoy the benefits of the EU milk scheme, which generates additional, stable demand for milk and dairy products. This could be particularly important now, with the continued downturn in the dairy sector. Nutrition for children is an investment in our long-term future, helping to prevent later chronic health issues."@en1
