"I would like to confirm that I abstained on this legislative resolution.
I agree with the sentiment of the report that healthy eating should be promoted in schools. The UK already has healthy eating promoted in schools as part of the curriculum because it is important to educate children to make good food choices.
The report demands that any Member States taking part in the programme must promote the European Union using ‘suitable communication tools to be laid down by the Commission.’ I take issue with the fine print of the report, which will allow the European Commission to ‘be empowered to adopt delegated acts to supplement the list of food products and flavours allowed’. The EC would be automatically allowed to decide what British children can and cannot eat without any consultation. This is a dangerous precedent to set."@en1
