"Madam President, I supported this report and congratulate to the rapporteur on a good report. I welcome the fact that Parliament will be deciding on the budget for this scheme in 2017 and 2018 and that we have transferred existing monies to increase the annual budget by EUR 20 million for school milk, compared to the Commission’s proposal.
This is a subject close to my heart because, back in 1999, my first success in an amendment in Parliament related to the school milk initiative. What I particularly welcome is that this scheme provides nutritious alternatives to the unhealthy snacks and sugary drinks consumed by children today. It is a win-win situation for our farmers and for our children. It is also a good deal for the UK taxpayer. It is another positive aspect of the UK’s membership of the EU."@en1
