We need both to prevent and control animal diseases which are transmissible to both animals and human beings, not only for animal welfare but also for public health. It is of crucial importance to set up a clear framework to identify diseases and potential threats and to clarify responsible parties in all cases for maintaining and monitoring the implementation of good animal welfare. The expected result from this would of course be to reduce the use of antibiotics in animals, and therefore improve the quality of life for animals and also the quality of our agricultural output."@en1
