"Madam President, first of all I would like to congratulate the rapporteur on an excellent job. There were a few hiccups on the way, but he certainly proved himself to be an excellent rapporteur. I think that all involved were certainly extremely happy with the way it went. I welcome the proposal. I think it will be good and I am sure that it will also send a strong message, not only to the dairy sector, but also to the fruit sector. Certainly the decisions that were made – and the Parliament made a large contribution – just prove that, when you work together, an awful lot more can be achieved than maybe was initially thought possible. Speaking for my own region I certainly look forward to that and I know the majority of the ECR Group will be voting for this. I believe that your proposal will go through. I am delighted that the overall budget part of the scheme has been extended and that the Commission and Parliament were able to find a way to do that. I have to say that I am glad we are having this debate this evening, but I feel it is very unfortunate that we are not having the debate on pigs immediately, when the Commissioner is here. When pig farmers are being destroyed throughout Europe, this Parliament did not see fit to put on that debate when we had the Commissioner and everybody here. This is by no means wishing to show disrespect for the rapporteur, who has done a tremendous job."@en1
