"While there remains much to be done in negotiations with New Zealand and Australia in the area of FTAs, particularly in relation to agriculture, I was happy to vote in favour of opening negotiations with Australia and New Zealand. These two countries represent an important market for EU nations, but are also vital international partners across a range of issues, and it makes a lot of sense to integrate them with Europe through the medium of free trade agreements. I hope that these negotiations are conducted in a spirit of compromise so that a deal can be found that is mutually beneficial to all parties."@en1
