"I was happy to vote in favour of this motion for resolution on the activities of the European Ombudsman, Emily O’Reilly. While acknowledging that transparency is an ongoing process, where there is almost always room for improvement in any institution or organisation, I feel that the Ombudsman made excellent progress in many areas in 2014. Due to the Ombudsman’s inquiries, the Commission has released a variety of documents that have proved invaluable to improving transparency, including on the Greek entry into the eurozone. Also the European Central Bank has disclosed the contents of a letter to the Irish Government on the financial crisis, and the Commission has followed the Ombudsman’s recommendation to release documents on the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy, although this was after reform had been agreed. I was therefore happy to vote positively in regards to the Ombudsman’s activities in 2014. It is vital that the Ombudsman is congratulated for her proactive work and encouraged to go further in the future. This can only be an advantage to European Union and its institutions."@en1
