"I voted in favour of this Single Market Governance Report within the European Semester. This report is one of two annual contributions from the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection to the European Semester process. It focuses, in particular, on the Commission’s ‘Single Market for growth and jobs’ report accompanying the Annual Growth Survey and dealing with the state of the integration of the single market. The single market has brought tremendous benefits for European citizens and businesses, the free movement of goods, services and capital and is crucial to stimulating competition. However, in some areas there is no truly integrated European market as missing legislation, administrative obstacles, and a lack of enforcement leaves the full potential of the single market unexploited. This report outlines several proposals that reiterate the need for strong leadership from all the EU institutions and clear political ownership on the part of the Member States in order to achieve tangible improvements and a more stringent governance for the single market."@en1
