"I welcome this report, and believe that many of the conclusions contained within it would improve the governance of the single market, which is in all Member States’ economic interest. The proposals for improvements to the way in which the Commission identifies and addresses gaps in the single market, and better enforcement to help ensure a level playing field are positive steps forward. I also welcome the references in the report to improving public procurement, and the efforts to address non-tariff barriers in a general sense – the subject of detailed scrutiny in my own report currently in progress. Deepening the single market will have enormous economic benefits to all our economies, but especially for SMEs and innovative start-ups. So, in conclusion, I hope the Commission will take on board the pro-competitiveness agenda and many of the positive ideas for improving the functioning of the single market contained within this report."@en1
