"I supported this application to mobilise EUR 1 095 544 of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) for 412 glass workers made redundant following the closure of production plants in the Hainaut and Namur regions. Glass production has been seriously disrupted and in a ten-year period employment in the glass sector as a whole in Europe decreased by 32%. In Wallonia, with its strong tradition of glass-making, the number of jobs in the sector in the Namur and Hainaut regions decreased by 19% between 2007 and 2012 with further large job losses in 2013 and 2014.
I was very pleased to see that the application will support a further 100 young people not in employment, education or training (NEETs) with measures specifically aimed at providing them with assistance such as mobilisation and guidance either for further education/training or to follow induction sessions and personalised upskilling, and I particularly welcome the fact that the Belgian authorities started providing the personalised services for the workers affected on 10 September 2015, well ahead of the decision on granting EGF support for the proposed coordinated package. It is also very positive that allowances and incentives to be provided amongst the proposed measures are limited to 5.52% of total estimated costs."@en1
