"I voted in favour of this report, which approves the mobilisation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) for 412 laid-off workers from Hainaut Namur Glass in Belgium.
Members States can make applications for the mobilisation of the EGF if at least 500 workers are made redundant in a single company over four months or in a sector of the economy over nine months. The EGF assistance provided can include active labour policies such as job-searching, training, upskilling, outplacement, education and business start-ups.
In this case I supported the derogation from the 500 worker threshold – because it was not significant, and because I am in favour reducing the threshold to 200 laid-off workers. One hundred young people not in education or training will have access to the fund, and the use of the fund for allowances is only 5% of the maximum 35% allowed."@en1
