"I voted in favour of this report which unilaterally offers Tunisia 35 000 tonnes of olive oil exports at zero duty. This decision is in light of the negative effects of terrorist attacks on the Tunisian economy. The extra tariff quotas would be in place for a period of two years from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2017.
Although I do not agree that trade liberalisation is the best tool for boosting developing economies, as it can often have the effect of concentrating wealth in a few hands, olive oil is Tunisia’s biggest agricultural export and employs in the region of one million people directly and indirectly. I therefore voted in favour of this temporary measure."@en1
