I think the introduction of emergency autonomous trade measures for Tunisia is very important and indeed critical at this particular time, particularly because of the geopolitical position there. The Commission has adopted a proposal for a regulation offering an additional temporary unilateral duty-free tariff quota for Tunisia’s export of olive oil to the EU under the form of autonomous trade measures. I think this makes sense because up to a million people are employed, either directly or indirectly, in the production of olive oil. It is also sensible that we should have a mid-term impact assessment to see how it is impacting on our own suppliers here in Europe and, if it is negatively impacting, we could take corrective measures."@en1
