"Madam President, this week I will submit an opinion to the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs aimed at protecting and enhancing the rights of persons with disabilities. The opinion will focus on the promotion of several rights, including the full implementation of the UN recommendations on the rights of persons with disabilities, full implementation of a European accessibility act, the removal of all barriers for people with disabilities and, crucially, the protection of the rights of our most vulnerable disabled people, including stateless people, homeless people, refugees and asylum seekers.
The 1916 Irish Proclamation calls on us to cherish all children equally. This is at the heart of what Sinn Féin do, and I hope the Committee will take on board my proposal, as people with disabilities need our dedication, application and commitment. I can tell the House that the Sinn Féin delegation and the other delegations in the GUE/NGL Group have all of these in abundance."@en1
