"Madam President, in the debate earlier today we heard Mr Tusk and Mr Juncker both say that if the British people vote to remain in the European Union, then the measures in Mr Cameron’s deal will require legislation. But Mr Tusk gave the game away when he said that he ‘hoped’ they would pass into legislation. In particular, they will require amendments to the Directive on free movement, which is a fundamental principle of the European Union. Parliament may actually vote to reject or change the substance of the deal, but we will not know that until after the referendum, if indeed the British people vote to remain. Mr Cameron is trying to sell a pig in a poke. The real issue in the referendum is whether the British people want their country to be a mere region of a United States of Europe, or whether they wish to restore our former status as an independent, self-governing nation. I urge them to vote to leave."@en1
