"The humanitarian situation in Yemen has deteriorated and the plight of those trapped in the conflict is shocking, with the most vulnerable bearing the brunt of its brutal reality. Malnutrition, lack of healthcare and no access to education will affect child victims for the rest of their lives. This conflict is yet another proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia, in an enormously complex and fragmented region. As usual, it is the most vulnerable who suffer in the crossfire, as both sides violate international humanitarian law. I have been in close contact with an Ethiopian Ogadeni journalist trapped in Yemen and receive frequent alerts about the situation on the ground for innocent civilians. The international community, the EU and its Member States individually, must put pressure on Saudi Arabia, Gulf states and Iran to make sure that they respect humanitarian law and do not kill or harm civilians. European Member States and other countries must ensure that they do not sell arms that end up targeting civilians in violation of international laws of conflict."@en1
