"This is still the initial stages of what is an incredibly long process, which I don’t suspect is going to be concluded for some time to come. It has been well documented that conditionality pressure from the EU has massive benefits for the development of democratic institutions and in the fight against corruption. But, of course this is not a linear process, and in a time of increasing populism around Europe, knock-backs will happen. Indeed, this report adds to this pressure by drawing attention to problems in the country, such as media freedom, deteriorating conditions for freedom of expression, lack of transparency in the funding of political parties and election campaigns, and calls on Serbia to make further efforts to improve the situation of their political institutions."@en1
