"Mr President, while I support UN-brokered negotiations and hope that they bring lasting peace to Libya, the reality on the ground is particularly worrying. Mounting speculation about another military intervention in Libya shows that the country is closer to chaos than anything else.
Ultimately, this is yet another stinging indictment of the international community’s inability to effect positive change in the region. If Libya were to fall apart again, it could also have a devastating impact on Tunisia – alas, the only bright spot of the so-called Arab Spring. This would only add insult to injury. A lasting outcome will undoubtedly require concessions, patience and, most significantly, Libyan solutions to Libyan problems.
Nevertheless, we must support democratic reform, as the consequences of failing again would be far more dramatic than what Libya and its people are living through right now."@en1
