"23 members of the World Trade Organisation (including the EU) are currently negotiating the Trade in Services Agreement. The services sector accounts for the world’s largest employer, and produces 70% of global gross domestic product. The agreement aspires to open up markets and improve rules in areas such as financial services, maritime transport, telecoms and licensing. The EU is the world’s largest exporter of services, therefore opening the market for services will encourage growth and create jobs. Consumer rights, along with social and environmental standards should not be seen as trade barriers but non-negotiable building blocks of the Europe 2020 strategy for growth. The TiSA has the potential to address fundamental barriers to trade in services across the globe. The agreement can improve issues such as limited movement of data across borders, unfair competition from state-owned enterprises and lack of transparency."@en1
