"Julie Girling MEP on behalf of UK Conservative delegation. I voted against the comitology objection today. RDE is a crucial issue that must be introduced as soon as possible.
Whilst not perfect, we must ensure that we get the principle of RDE into regulations without delay. The agreement struck at the TCMV allows us to move forward to the next stage of delivering on RDE. The Commission has shown its commitment with the recent formal statement and we must hold Member States to their commitment to deliver a review of conformity factors and a clear path to a factor of one.
This is not about allowing car manufacturer to breach Euro 6 standards, but rather about recognising the type approval mechanism is not perfect and ensuring the shift to RDE. The conformity factors included are not as low as technologically feasible, but they are transitional and the mechanism of annual review will allow the consideration of technological improvement moving forward. We have to get these key reforms going, and give some necessary legal and investment certainty.
This measure is a major step forward in addressing Europe’s air quality issues."@en1
