"The agreement introduces an ambitious preferential trade regime between both parties, known as the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). Currently the EU is Georgia’s main trading partner. Trade with Georgia amounts for 0.1% of the EU’s total trade. Article 27 of the agreement allows for an ‘anti-circumvention mechanism’. This enables the reintroduction of the ‘most-favoured-nation’ customs duty rate when imports from Georgia are in excess of a certain threshold without justification of their origin. This clause is crucial to avoid the Union importing non-Georgian products via Georgia. The measure must be used to stop countries with bilateral free-trade agreements with Georgia, like Turkey and EUROPMED countries using the Agreement to avoid ‘rules of origin’ requirement. This clause also works to protect Georgian producers from unprecedented competition from non-Georgian producers."@en1
