"My fellow UKIP MEP’s voted against this legislation because it will create a taxpayer funded junket for civil servants, national agencies and social partners to wine and dine in Brussels. The platform will produce advice and non-binding guidelines on how to tackle undeclared work. An article in the legislation specifically says that the Commission will reimburse travel and, where appropriate, subsistence expenses for members, alternates, observers and invited experts. In the original Commission proposal it states: ‘Up to EUR 224 000 per year will be used to reimburse the costs related to participation in the Platform meetings.’ UKIP has no problem with individual countries working together to share best practises and deal with this issue. However only the elected and accountable national governments should be able to take such decisions – unelected EU bureaucrats have no right to waste taxpayers’ money on such vanity projects."@en1
