"Amendments to the 1998 Protocol to the 1979 Convention on long-range transboundary air pollution on heavy metals.
The Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution aims to protect the environment against air pollutants. Air pollutants have the potential to travel several thousand kilometres before being deposited. Stricter limit values for dust emissions and flexible transitional arrangements will directly benefit those following the amended protocol. A new directive setting updated national emission ceilings for certain atmospheric pollutants and annual national emission inventories will deal with emissions of lead, cadmium and mercury. Ratifying this amendment aims to provide a higher level of protection of human health and preserve the environment against transboundary air pollution."@en1
