"I voted in favour of the technical codification proposed by the Commission which will not impact on the substance of the Schengen Border Code, only simplify and clarify the text, making it clearer and more accessible to citizens. On 20 January 2015 the Commission adopted a proposal for the technical codification of the Schengen Border Code (i.e. the rules governing movement of persons across Schengen borders). The Schengen Borders Code regulation is intended to improve the legislative part of the integrated border management European Union policy by setting out the rules on the border control of persons crossing EU external borders and on the temporary reintroduction of border control at internal borders. This regulation applies to any person crossing the external borders of all EU countries, except those of the United Kingdom and Ireland, and the internal borders of the Schengen area (a border-free area comprising 22 EU countries, along with Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland). Ireland is not a member of Schengen and so we do not fall under the remit of the Schengen Border Code."@en1
