"In response to the first question, minimum wages have absolutely nothing to do with the platform on undeclared work. I think you misunderstood what I was saying. You realise that there are different activities that the platform will undertake, and each of those will be voluntary. The Member States can pick and choose which aspects are particularly important to them, and it seems to me that enhanced cooperation is a very good way of us working together.
To Bill Etheridge: well of course, if you come from your party, you do not want anything at a European level. I beg to differ. I think that there are cases, and this is one, where the European Union can add value. Those are the cases we should be participating in and joining. It is so much better that all the Member States are agreed. We have a way of tackling undeclared work which is indeed cross-border. If you want to go and set up your own organisation in the UK, you are going to have a lot more difficulty, because here we have the means of communicating and dealing with the other countries on a level footing, with nothing compulsory in there."@en1
