"In these negotiations – in the GATS agreement at international level which we are looking to revise – there is no social chapter and there is no inclusion of the ratification of ILO standards. We have tussled with this inside the Committee on International Trade (INTA), as well you know. We have worked out how to tackle ensuring that those basic fundamental labour rights are reflected, and the report and the compromise that we reached in the INTA Committee actually sets out a clear demand for all TiSA parties to ratify and to apply ILO Conventions, not in the TiSA agreement but in practice – and, in reality, practice is the thing that we need, not words on paper, and I think this report is a strong step forward."@en1
