"The Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) is a trade scheme whereby the EU meddles in the internal politics of third countries by making tariff-free access to EU markets subject to implementation of international conventions – in areas including labour rights and related civil-society issues. According to the resolution’s authors, Kyrgyzstan has failed to meet the (politicised) requirements necessary for GSP+ treatment. The Commission disagrees, having granted Kyrgyzstan eligibility for GSP+ in November 2015 following that country’s own-initiative application. The resolution’s authors call for repealing the Commission delegated act that would activate GSP+ treatment for Kyrgyzstan.
Though UKIP believe the EU should not force countries to change their sovereign laws in order to trade favourably with it, Kyrgyzstan made a choice on its own initiative to gain GSP+ treatment. On these grounds, UKIP MEPs voted to abstain."@en1
