"Mr Verhofstadt, I wanted to ask you about the internal market. We have heard the Dutch Prime Minister talk about the need to unlock that economic benefit, that EUR 1.25 trillion, from further cooperation on the single market. We have heard the Socialists say that they do not really care about it: I am glad that they are so rich that they can leave that money untouched.
The problem is so often that we try to unlock that benefit but just replace 28 regulations with an even more expensive one at European level. Do you therefore promise that your group will not vote for legislation that adds more cost? Will you commit to a burden reduction target to reduce red tape, and will you not add more costs through more social legislation, more legislation on our shared economy and more legislation and more costs on data, for example? Do you promise to commit to reducing costs for our economy?"@en1
