"In the UK, women make up just 18% of entrepreneurs. The economic advantages to encouraging and supporting more women in becoming entrepreneurs are significant. According to research, if the number of female entrepreneurs equalled that of male entrepreneurs, UK GDP could be increased by 10% by 2030. Starting a business is a huge undertaking and many of the one million female entrepreneurs in the UK will testify that ‘it’s often not as straightforward a career path for women as it is for men’. The Entrepreneur Association suggests that the biggest barrier to women becoming entrepreneurs is confidence and mindset. This report highlighted a number of practical elements which could help women become entrepreneurs; specific skills based training; peer-to- peer support; access to childcare for women with children; and confidence that banks will treat men and women equally in their application for a start-up loan. There were a small number of elements of this report which the UK Delegation was unable to support, mainly regarding social policy which we believe should be driven by national governments. Overall, the UK Delegation was pleased to be able to support this report."@en1
