"Together with my Labour colleagues, I was proud to vote in favour of this the report ‘the role of intercultural dialogue, cultural diversity and education in promoting EU fundamental values’. The rising tide of hate from both within and without Europe, which has led to acts of violence in Europe and increasing tensions needs to be dealt with. Along with my colleagues I believe that one of the best ways to achieve this is through intercultural dialogue and increased understanding, to promote our values. It is very positive that this report not only looks at the challenges we face, but also sees opportunities in the current troubled landscape. This report also makes concrete recommendations for action at all governmental levels. The report also recognises the fact the EU needs to be robust in its use of culture as part of its external development policies."@en1
