"I voted in favour of this report as I believe that the European Union should try and foster intercultural dialogue, cultural diversity and education especially when we consider the recent Paris attacks and the massive migration challenges we are currently facing. I support the call for the EU to continue the work initiated during the 2008 European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. The Year, which helped raise awareness of cultural diversity based on common values, is important to help educate people about the values of freedom, tolerance and non-discrimination. Likewise, I was happy that within the report, the rapporteur made specific reference to the cultural benefits which have been given to many young people in Ireland and across Europe who have participated in the Erasmus+ programme. I was also happy to support the call to systematically integrate culture into the EU3s development projects and programmes and, therefore, highlight the need to remove obstacles to mobility for artists, educators, academics and culture professionals. To this end, visa procedures should be harmonised and simplified to encourage cultural cooperation with other parts of the world."@en1
