"Whilst I welcome some elements of this report, particularly its emphasis on the importance of education in integration, which is pertinent given recent tragic events in Paris, I cannot support the report as a whole. It goes too far in promoting EU citizenship and EU representation at international level at the expense of national governments and identity. Some of its proposals on Member State education policies clearly infringe national sovereignty and are outside EU competences. The proposal for an EU cultural attaché to third partner countries and stronger EU representation within UN agencies directly undermines national interests and risks undermining the strength of cultural diversity within Europe. For all these reasons I voted against the report in the final vote."@en1
