"I was happy to vote in favour of the Report on the Annual Report on Competition Policy because it is through a strong European competition policy that we are able to ensure that our consumers are getting the best possible deal, and that our small and local businesses are competing on a level playing field. This report is also sympathetic to national needs. To promote the development and competitiveness of European industry, it is vital that our industry is invested in and properly protected, as the recent news from TATA highlighted. The Single Market of over 500 million people is one of the greatest strengths of our Union, and by developing and enforcing strong rules for fair competition we ensure more innovation, more opportunities, and ultimately a better deal for British citizens and consumers."@en1
