A strong European competition policy not only ensures that consumers get the best possible deal, but also that small and local business in the West Midlands can compete on a level playing field. In light of the ongoing crisis in the UK steel industry, I particularly welcome paragraph 54, which ‘requests a study into whether current EU provisions on state aid inhibit the consolidation and strengthening of competitiveness among European firms vis-à-vis their global competitors.’"@en1
