"Mr President, Milton Friedman once said that the greatest advances of civilisation, whether in architecture, painting, science, literature, industry or agriculture, have never come from centralised government. Well, here we are sitting in the European Union epicentre of centralised government: centralised in the Council, centralised by unelected Commissioners. And in competition – and this policy in particular – we see once more how this centralised government wants to take control of business and how it acts.
The EU has centralised currencies in the euro, and we now see the damage in the Eurozone and how much unemployment for young people exists. It has centralised rules and regulations, and we can see what the impact on trade of the European Union is. What we must take as a lesson from this is that the European Union should not be centralised any more. Give it back to the nation states and make them free to compete on the world stage."@en1
