"I voted in favour of this report as I believe there is a need to rebuild bluefin tuna stock in order to make it sustainable into the future. The application of the ICCAT recommendations will help to ensure a uniform application of the management of tuna stocks across the EU. I also strongly agree with the amendments to support small-scale and traditional tuna fisheries, especially in the inter-institutional negotiations where a review of the quota system takes place. This will help to ensure that large vessel owners will no longer have a monopoly of the quotas. Likewise, I fully supported the Parliament preserving its competencies regarding the transposition of the Regional Fisheries Management Organisation recommendations into EU law. Parliament, as an elected institution, has a right to input into legislation rather than the Commission using delegated or implementing acts which severely restricts the level of scrutiny over the Commission."@en1
