"A Uachtaráin, go raibh maith agat as ucht mé a ghlaoch. Cheapas nach nglaofaí orm. They say in English that the best goods come in small parcels. That applies normally to people like myself, I can say tongue in cheek, but can also apply to countries. In this regard, it fits the bill for Luxembourg – one of the smallest, but at the same time, most central and most committed Member States of the European Union. I would like to compliment them on the excellent job they did over the last six months. They made wonderful progress in many areas and worked very efficiently, particularly in the area in which I was involved – data protection trilogues. I must say that Laura Wagner, who represented the Council, was very confident, competent, fair and firm and I think that at the end of the day we did succeed in getting the Data Protection Regulation finalised. While not everybody is happy, that is probably a good outcome for a regulation. We have done it and I have no doubt it will stand the test of time. Former Commissioner Reding, who initiated it, is also, of course, from Luxembourg."@en1
