"Mr President, I have had much constituent correspondence about the proposed Firearms Directive amendment, most notably from the Imperial War Museum, the National Army Museum and the Royal Armouries. The proposed amendment would require museums to deactivate or destroy their historical collections, and it would prevent them making further acquisitions. This amendment is a panic reaction to the Paris massacre. How many criminal and terrorist acts have been carried out using antique weapons, we may ask? None, I would guess. These museums asked for an exemption, but any exemption should equally apply to all collectors of antique weapons. UKIP MEPs will certainly support that. This is just the latest example of my constituents’ legitimate interests being damaged by ill-considered and unnecessary legislation. If they do not like it, then I advise them to take up arms – metaphorically, of course – and campaign to leave the European Union in the coming referendum."@en1
