lpv:spoken text	"Robust measures for arms control are important, but this report infringes too far on the unilateral right of member states to operate their own defence policy and goes beyond the EU’s common position on regulation of arms exports. The eight criteria in the common position on arms export licensing are clearly expressed in non-binding language, recognising national sovereignty in matters of defence. The United Kingdom government already employs robust measures on arms exportation, assessing applications on a case-by-case basis against the consolidated EU and national arms export licensing criteria. I will always defend the sovereign right of nations to set their own defence policy, and so I cannot support this report’s infringement on that right."@en1
